Artist Bio

Jeanne Guertin-Potoff is a contemporary abstract artist whose work explores the interplay between sensory perception, emotion, and the fragmented nature of memory. Her artistic focus spans multiple disciplines including ceramics, oil, acrylic, and cold wax painting, alongside collage, pastels, encaustic painting, and serigraphy.

Jeanne’s multidisciplinary approach reflects a lifelong balance between analytical and creative thinking, influenced by her upbringing with a musically gifted mother and an engineer-inventor father. This dynamic foundation has informed her artistic exploration and fostered her ability to merge multiple forms of expression.

Beginning with her work in ceramics in the 80’s, she began mixing traditional materials with found objects, combining vocalizing with paintings and movement with abstracted shapes. Her collaboration with poet Don McLagan in 2025 further exemplifies this fusion, blending visual and literary arts to create meaningful works that resonate on multiple levels.

Jeanne’s art has been featured in several prominent museum group exhibitions, including those held at the Florence Griswold Museum, Mystic Museum of Art, New Britain Museum of American Art, Newport Art Museum, and Slater Memorial Museum. In addition to her museum exposure, her work has appeared in numerous other juried shows such as those held at Art Center Manatee, Art Center Sarasota, Earth & Fire Gallery, the Lyme Art Association and West Hartford Art League.

Notably, Jeanne has participated in numerous juried shows at Art Center Sarasota, earning accolades and prizes. Her solo exhibition, Adjusting Focus, also took place there in 2023. Jeanne's creativity was also recognized as she received the "Most Creative" award at the Paint the Point show in Newport, RI, in 2001.

Throughout her artistic career, Jeanne has pursued a rigorous path of professional development, studying under esteemed artists such as Wolf Kahn, Skip Lawrence, Aviva Gold, and Julie Hanson. Her studies include specialized training in cold wax and oils under Pam Caughey and advanced techniques in collage, portrait drawing, and landscape painting. She also completed intensive workshops with notable instructors like Diane Aeschliman, Joann Ballinger, Christopher Zhang, Terry Oakes-Bouret, and Barbara Eisenberg.

A dedicated member of several art organizations, Jeanne has been an active participant in Art Center Sarasota, West Hartford Art League, Guilford Art Center, River Valley Artists, Women Contemporary Artists, Lyme Art Association and The Cove Connection.
